About Melanie Warner page 1 Born in Hawaii, raised in the beautiful Sierra Foothills in California; Melanie Warner is the eldest of four girls and the youngest to start in Martial Arts. She was actually a baby when her father started taking her little hands and feet and doing little punches and kicks; training continued from there. Of course all of her sisters pack mean punches and kick as well. They grew up playing 'ambush' in the mountains around rivers and in forests on dojo hikes, under the instruction of their Sensei and father Michael M. Foley. He is an extraordinary man with an incredible mission in life; not only as a father but as one of the finest instructors of Martial Arts many will ever see. He is currently in Iraq helping our soldiers to learn how to survive and keeping them in shape. Foley has spent his life thus far, dedicated to learning and passing on the knowledge he has acquired through years of rigorous training in many different arts. He trained his daughters well so he doesn't have to worry about them while he's overseas. Melanie took very well to the technical aspects of Koden Kan Karate, Foley calls her a "technician" of the style. She loves the art in kata but also has utmost respect for the raw power you can create by moving your body properly to be able to incapacitate an opponent twice your size with one kick.
